Note: To check the steering time, park the machine on a dry, hard, level surface. Permit only one operator on the machine. Keep all other personnel away from the machine.With the engine at high idle, the steering time for a full turn from stop to stop should be 3.7 0.3 seconds. With the engine at low idle, the steering time for a full turn from stop to stop should be 7.4 0.6 seconds.When the service brakes are not applied, the difference between the steering time for a right turn and the steering time for a left turn must not be more than 0.3 second. When the service brakes are applied, the steering time must not increase by more than 0.2 second.If the difference between the steering time for a full right turn and the steering time for a full left turn is more than 0.3 second, use the following procedure to adjust the steering time:

Steering Control Valve
(1) Control valve spool. (2) Flow balance shims. (3) Springs. (4) Pilot oil port.
Note: The standard steering control valve is shown above. However, the secondary steering control valve is similar.
Remove the fittings from pilot oil port (4) of the steering control valve.
To achieve a faster right turn and a slower left turn, add flow balance shims (2). If flow balance shims (2) are removed, the result is the opposite.
The thickness of each 4J-8224 Shim is 0.25 mm (.010 inch). The thickness of each 5J-4776 Shim is 0.12 mm (0.005 inch). Two shims (one shim of each thickness) will change the steering times at high idle by approximately 0.1 second.
Install the fittings and the line to pilot oil port (4).
