5T-4632 Final Drive and Wheel GroupTightening The Axle Housing Bolts
Refer to the appropriate Service Manual.Install bolts (1) in the axle housing. Tighten bolts (1) in an alternating star pattern to 500 90 N m (370 70 lb ft). Next, tighten bolts (1) again in an alternating star pattern, to a torque of 700 90 N m (515 70 lb ft).
Anti-seize compound is not used on the threads and washer faces of the bolts (1) when using this procedure.Tightening The Bolts In The Retainer Plate
1. Set the wheel bearing preload according to the appropriate Service Manual. 2. While turning the wheel, tighten the bolts (2) that hold the retainer to the axle housing to a torque of 280 30 N m (206 22 lb ft) following a crossing pattern as shown in Illustration 2. Make sure that 5P-8247 Washers are installed on bolts (2) before final assembly.
