Lower the bucket to the ground. Stop the engine. Setting the Service Brake
Make sure that the machine is parked on flat, level ground. Lower the bucket to the ground. Chock all wheels so that the machine cannot move.Remove trim and the rubber boot on the parking brake lever in order to gain access to the cable and the adjuster for the cable.Note: When your machine has a storage box in the cab refer to Step 1. When your machine has a grill and a tray refer to Step 2.

Complete the following steps in order to access the parking brake lever.
Remove storage box (1).
Remove the rubber boot on the parking brake lever.

Complete the following steps in order to access the parking brake lever.
Remove grill (2).

Disconnect the inner cable for the parking brake from the parking brake lever by removing pin (4).

Loosen the two adjusting nuts (5) in order to loosen the outer parking brake cable. Set the service brake while the parking brake is disconnected. The service brake is self-adjusting, but the following procedure sets the brake to pad clearance at the caliper.
Purge the brake system. Reference: Refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Brake System Air - Purge".

Connect 8T-0857 Pressure Gauge to test port (6) on the machine.
Slowly apply pressure to the brake pedal until the gauge shows a reading of 5000 kPa (725.2000 psi).
Release the brake pedal.
Repeat Step 8 through Step 9 for five more cycles. Note: The parking brake cable must not be attached to the parking brake lever until the service brakes have been properly bled and the service brakes have been adjusted.Reference: Refer to Testing and Adjusting, KENR5209, "Service Brake - Test and Adjust" then reference the title Service Brake Holding Ability Test.Procedure to Adjust the parking brake
Use the previous procedure in order to adjust the service brake. After the service brake is adjusted correctly the parking brake may be set. Follow the procedure below in order to set the parking brake.

Connect the inner cable (7) to the actuator lever of the brake caliper.
Connect the inner cable (7) to the parking brake lever.

Parking brake lever (8) should be placed all the way toward the floor of the machine. Adjust the cable with the two adjusting nuts (5) until there is 2 mm (0.079 inch) to 4 mm (0.158 inch) of free travel of the inner cable (7) at the caliper.

Tighten two nuts (5) to a torque of 38 3 N m (28 2 lb ft). Note: When your machine has a storage box in the cab refer to Step 5. When your machine has a grill and a tray refer to Step 6.
