Rear viewNote: Before installation of the flywheel housing, inspect the front face of the flywheel housing and the rear face of the cylinder block. The components must be free of the following substances: oil, fuel, water, gasket adhesive, assembly compounds and any other foreign materialUse the following procedure to tighten the bolts for the flywheel housing group:
Tighten the bolt 1 through bolt 21 in the numerical sequence that is shown in Illustration1 to 40 10 N m (30 7 lb ft).
Again, tighten the bolt 1 through bolt 8 in the numerical sequence that is shown in Illustration 1 to 135 20 N m (100 15 lb ft).
Again, tighten the bolt 9 through bolt 21 in the numerical sequence that is shown in Illustration 1 to 55 10 N m (41 7 lb ft).

Front view (1) Before assembly, apply 4C-4030 Thread Lock Compound to the threads of the bolts. (2) Apply a continuous bead of 4C-9612 Silicone Sealant immediately prior to assembling the flywheel housing. After assembly of the flywheel housing, remove excess silicone sealant from the flange with a straight edge. (3) Apply 4C-9612 Silicone Sealant to the T-shaped joints immediately prior to the installation of the gasket for the oil pan. The application of the silicone sealant should cover the entire width of the T-shaped joints, as shown.
