Operation of the VIMS With the Engine Shutdown (Ground Level) Switch
When the VIMS detects a data event that requires VIMS to ask the engine to shutdown, the VIMS will log and display a warning to the operator The engine shutdown data events are listed below:
High Engine Coolant Temperature
Low Engine Coolant Level
Low Engine Oil Pressure
Low Engine Oil LevelIf the ground level shutdown switch is in the ON (NOT RUNNING) position when the VIMS detects the data event, the event will remain active after the condition that caused the data event has been corrected. The engine will not start when the ground level shutdown switch is in the ON (NOT RUNNING) position. The data event will not reset until the ground level shutdown switch has been placed in the OFF ("RUNNING") position and the key start switch is cycled to the OFF position and back to the ON position. Note: The engine shutdown switch provides the ability to shutdown the engine without being in the cab while the key start switch is in the ON position and the engine is running. When the engine shutdown switch is placed in the ON (NOT RUNNING) position, the fuel injection to the engine is disabled after 1 second. Once the engine shutdown switch has been activated the engine will not start again until, the engine shutdown switch is placed in the OFF ("RUNNING") position and the key start switch is cycled to the OFF position and back to the ON position.An Example of The VIMS Operation
Initial Conditions
The engine shutdown switch is in the ON (NOT RUNNING) position.
The key start switch is turned to the OFF position.
The engine is not running.The Machine Condition That Caused the data event
The engine coolant level is below the specified level. The Response of the VIMS
The operator turns the key start switch to the "ON" position. The VIMS correctly logs a data event in the event list and displays the following warning on the message center:
