Removal Procedure
Start By:
Connect the steering frame lock. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Steering Frame Lock - Separate and Connect" for the machine that is being serviced.
Release the hydraulic system pressure. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "System Pressure - Release" for the machine that is being serviced.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Hot oil and hot components can cause personal injury. Do not allow hot oil or hot components to contact skin.
Note: Put identification marks on all hoses and on all wires for installation purposes. Plug all hoses. This will help to prevent fluid loss and this will help to keep contaminants from entering the system.

Remove knob (2). Remove four screws (3) and the washers. Remove guard assembly (1) .

Remove knob (4). Remove thirteen screws (5) and the washers. Remove two covers (6) .

Disconnect four hose assemblies (7). Cut the tie straps that are securing the hose assemblies.
Disconnect two electrical connectors (8) and (9) .

Remove three bolts (10). Remove the STIC steering control lever (11) and the steering pilot valve as a unit.

Remove two bolts (12) and cover (13) .

Remove two bolts (14) and housing (15) .

Remove two screws (16). Repeat for the opposite side. Remove STIC steering control lever (17) from the steering pilot valve (18) .
