Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before assembly, thoroughly clean all parts in cleaning fluid. Allow the parts to air dry. Do not use wiping cloths or rags to dry parts. Lint may be deposited on the parts which may cause trouble. Inspect all parts. If any parts are worn or damaged, use new parts for replacement. Dirt and other contaminants can damage the precision component. Perform assembly procedures on a clean work surface. Keep components covered and protected at all times.
The spring of the recoil spring assembly is compressed under several tons of force.Do not attempt to compress or release the tension of the spring with the nut on the end of the retaining rod.Damaged threads on the retaining rod or nut can cause the assembly to come apart with force, resulting in injury or death.
Note: Prior to assembling the recoil spring assembly, make sure that Tooling (A) is on a level surface.

Check the condition of the threads on rod (12) and nut (6). If the threads are worn or damaged, use new parts for replacement.
Assemble the recoil spring assembly loosely. Install spring (11), rod (12), support (10), and support (13).

Install Tooling (C) on Tooling (B).
Illustration 3 g00561928Note: Adjustable supports (1), movable plate (2), and reaction plate (3) are part of Tooling (A).
Adjust the spacing between movable plate (2) and reaction plate (3) so that the spacing is approximately the same length as the recoil spring assembly. Also, make sure that two adjustable supports (1) are positioned between reaction plate (3) and movable plate (2), as shown. Level adjustable supports (1).

The suitable lifting device has been removed from recoil spring assembly (4) to provide a better illustration of level gauge (5).
Note: Recoil spring assembly (4) may be installed in Tooling (A) from the end. In this case, movable plate (3) must be removed. Then reinstall movable plate (3) after recoil spring assembly (4) is in place on adjustable supports (1) (not shown).
Do not remove the hoist from the recoil spring assembly until the unit is leveled, centered and locked in the specified tooling.
Attach a suitable lifting device to recoil spring assembly (4). The weight of recoil spring assembly (4) is approximately 132 kg (291 lb). Place recoil spring assembly (4) onto adjustable supports (1) in Tooling (A).
Adjust adjustable supports (1) to align the centerline of recoil spring assembly (4) with the centerline of Tooling (A).
Operate Tooling (B) to guide the end of recoil spring assembly (4) through the hole in movable plate (3).
Put a level gauge (5) on the recoil spring assembly. Make sure that recoil spring assembly (4) is level and centered in Tooling (A).
Remove the suitable lifting device from recoil spring assembly (4).

Close covers (8) on Tooling (A). Compress the recoil spring assembly with Tooling (B).
Open covers (8) on Tooling (A). Measure the assembled length of spring (11). The compressed Length (X) must be 729 mm (28.7
