Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.

Use Tool (A) to remove oil filters (3) from the oil filter base.
Remove elbow (2) .
Remove tube (1) .
Remove bolts (4), bolts (5), and four bolts (6) .
Remove the oil filter base.
Separate the oil filter base, if necessary.
Remove the filter bypass valve.Installation Procedure
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.

Install the filter bypass valve.
Install the oil filter base.
Install bolts (4), bolts (5), and four bolts (6) .
Install tube (1) .
Install elbow (2) .
Install oil filters (3) according to the instructions on the oil filters.
Check the engine oil for the correct level. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual.
