Information:
Interlock Mechanism Adjustment
The following adjustment is to be made with the flywheel clutch in the ENGAGED position.1. Adjust the flywheel clutch.2. Loosen the locknut on control rod (1) and rotate the adjusting nut to obtain dimension (A). Tighten the locknut.3. Loosen the locknut on control rod (2) and rotate the adjusting nut to obtain dimension (B). Tighten the locknut.
INTERLOCK MECHANISM
1-High-low range interlock mechanism control rod. 2-Speed and directional interlock mechanism control rod. A-1.91 in. (48,5 mm) dimension (distance from centerline of pin to face of interlock housing). B-1.81 in. (46,0 mm) dimension (distance from centerline of pin to face of interlock housing).Pinion Shaft Bearing Preload
The tapered roller bearing assembly at the front of the pinion shaft requires a preload.
MEASURING CLEARANCE
1-Thickness gauge. 2-Bearing cage. 3-Parking brake adapter.1. Install parking brake adapter (3) without shims and seal between the adapter and bearing cage (2).2. Measure the clearance between adapter (3) and bearing cage (2) with a thickness gauge (1).3. Subtract .002 .001 in. (0,05 0,025 mm) from the clearance obtained in Step 2 and install the resulting thickness of shims, and the seal, between the cage (2) and adapter (3).4. Install the parking brake.Bevel Gear And Pinion Setting
The bevel gear and pinion must be located properly to obtain the correct tooth contact.Shims are provided between the pinion shaft front bearing cage flange and the front cover of the transmission case, so the pinion can be moved toward or away from the centerline of the bevel gear shaft. Other shims are located between the bevel gear shaft bearing cages and the walls of the bevel gear compartment to permit moving the bevel gear toward or away from the centerline of the bevel pinion shaft, thereby changing the backlash. Moving either the bevel gear or the pinion affects both backlash and tooth contact so the two must be adjusted at the same time.Because of manufacturing tolerances, the relative positions of the bevel gear and the pinion gear will vary with different sets. When replacing an individual gear or pinion, see the topic BACKLASH ADJUSTMENT.Bevel Gear Shaft Bearing Adjustment
Maintain backlash between the bevel pinion and bevel gear while adjusting the bevel gear shaft bearings.1. Install a full shim pack between the bearing cage, nearer the bevel gear, and the transmission case.2. Install the other bearing cage without shims or lockwashers on the bolts.3. Tighten equally spaced bolts just enough to remove end clearance from the shaft.4. Determine the thickness between the cage and case by using a thickness gauge.5. Remove the bearing cage and install shims equal to the clearance measured minus .010 .002 in. (0,25 0,05 mm).6. Install the cage, tighten the bolts and the bearings will be correctly adjusted.Backlash Adjustment
The proper amount of backlash to be allowed between each bevel gear and pinion set on original installation is determined at the factory. On a replacement gear or pinion the backlash should be adjusted to: No. 120-.009 .001 in. (0,23 0,03 mm).No. 140-.014 .002 in. (0,36 0,05 mm).1.
