Component Code 5056SUBJECT: FIELD REPORTS HAVE BEEN RECEIVED OF MISASSEMBLED OR MISSING ECOLOGY DRAIN VALVES IN THE HYDRAULIC TANKS ON D11R AND D11R CARRYDOZER
PROBLEM:
The 106-8186 ecology drain valve is threaded into a block that is welded onto the hydraulic tank. This block may have been tapped completely through. If so, under normal operating conditions, this valve may thread itself completely through the block and fall into the tank. If this occurs, it is possible for the valve to be sucked into the pump intake line, resulting in catastrophic failure of the pump and contamination of the hydraulic system.
SOLUTION:
Perform the following procedure to ensure that this valve cannot work itself into the tank:
Drain the hydraulic tank.
Remove plug (2) and valve (3).
Clean the threads with LPS (contact cleaner) and towel in order to remove any residual oil.
Use a small (5/16" x 1/8") punch to nick the last two threads. This will create an interference stop for retention.
Apply a small bead of 4C-4030 Sealant to the mid-section of the valve threads (3) around the full diameter. Avoid getting sealant on the valve seat.
Apply a small amount of 4C-4030 Sealant at the rear of the hole.
Install valve (3) to the correct depth. This can be determined by measuring 12 mm (0.472 inch) from the top of the valve T-handle to the block face. The depth can also be determined by measuring 21 mm (0.827 inch) from the shoulder of the valve to the block face.
Use a towel to remove excess sealant from the threads in the hole prior to the installation of plug (2).
Install plug (2).
Refill the hydraulic tank.
