(1) Oil filter housing for the torque converter
Park the machine on level ground and engage the parking brake. Stop the engine.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Remove the drain plug from the filter cover on the bottom of oil filter housing (1). Install a 88.0 mm (3.50 inch) long pipe nipple in order to open the internal drain valve. The outer diameter of the nipple should be 38.0 mm (1.5 inch). Drain the oil into a suitable container. Remove the nipple. Clean the drain plug and install the drain plug. Note: Hand tighten the nipple. Do not use tools.Note: Some oil may not drain from oil filter housing (1) when the drain plug is removed from the cover. When you remove the cover and the filter element, be careful to avoid contact with hot oil.
Remove the cover and the filter element. Discard the filter element into a suitable container.
Inspect the cover seal. If the seal is damaged, replace the seal.
Install a new filter element in oil filter housing (1). Install the cover.

Use dimension (X) to check the oil level in the torque converter sump with cold oil and the engine OFF.
If necessary, add oil. The torque converter oil and transmission oil is added at filler tube (4). If the system has been drained, see Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Torque Converter and Transmission Oil - Change" for the proper procedure.
Start the engine and operate the engine at low idle. Check the system for leaks and make any necessary repairs.
Keep the parking brake engaged and leave the transmission in the NEUTRAL position.
If the oil is at operating temperature and the engine is ON, make sure that the oil level is within dimension (Y) of upper sight gauge (2) and lower sight gauge (3). Note: Do not add oil to the sump of the torque converter if the engine is operating.
If necessary, add oil. The torque converter oil and transmission oil is added at filler tube (4). If the system has been drained, see Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Torque Converter and Transmission Oil - Change" for the proper procedure.
