Remove two bolts (1) and discard.

Install Tooling (A) and remove 14 bolts (2) and discard.

Install Tooling (B) and a suitable lifting device in positions shown. Flywheel assembly (3) weighs approximately 180 kg (400 lb).
Remove flywheel assembly (3).Installation Procedure

Inspect the condition of the flywheel ring gear (4). Use the following procedure to replace the ring gear, if necessary.
Remove the damaged flywheel ring gear (4) from the flywheel.
Raise the temperature of new flywheel ring gear (4).
Install new flywheel ring gear (4) on the flywheel. Ensure that the chamfer of the gear teeth will be toward the pinion of the starting motor.

Install Tooling (A).

Attach Tooling (B) and a suitable lifting device to flywheel assembly (3). Flywheel assembly (3) weighs approximately 180 kg (400 lb).
Position flywheel assembly (3) and remove Tooling (B) .
Illustration 7 g06334541Note: Replace with new bolts. Never reuse flywheel assembly bolts (1) and (2) .
.Lubricate bolt threads and seats with clean engine oil before assembly.
Install 14 bolts (2) and remove Tooling (A). Do not torque.

Lubricate bolt threads and seats before assembly.
Install two bolts (1).
Tighten 14 bolts (2) and two bolts (1) to a torque of 1000 60 N m (738 44 lb ft).
