Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
Drain the engine oil. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Engine Oil and Filter - Change" for the proper draining and filling procedures.

Remove bolts (1), bolt (3), cover (2), and the gasket.

Attach a suitable lifting device to regulator housing (6).
Remove bolts (4), bolts (5), bolts (7), and regulator housing (6). The weight of regulator housing (6) is approximately 23 kg (51 lb).

Remove oil temperature regulators (8) and lip seals (9). Installation Procedure
Install oil temperature regulator (8) in the reverse order of removal.
Use Tooling (A) to install lip seals (9).
Lubricate the bore of cover (2) with the lubricant that is being sealed.
