Paving Operation Tips
* To start operation, block the screed as described in Screed Adjustment. When the screed moves off the blocks it will leave the desired mat thickness.* Make only small adjustments with the screed jack switches. Then allow the paver to travel at least three tow arm lengths for the adjustment to take effect before making another adjustment.* Check the depth of the mat at several places across the width of the mat. If the mat thickness is checked at only one place, a low spot in the original grade could make you believe the mat is thicker than it really is.* Keep the amount of asphalt mix at the front of the screed as constant as possible. The mix should be kept up to mid point on the auger.* Keep the paver forward speed as constant as possible.* Keep the asphalt mix and the temperature of the asphalt mix as constant as possible.Receiving The First Load Of Asphalt
Before the first load is received: * Move both auger direction and speed control levers up (1) and then down to check for proper operation of the augers. Return the levers to the OFF position.* Pull vibration control knob (2) rearward to check for proper operation of the vibration mechanism. Turn off the vibration system. The engine must be running.1. Have the truck back toward the paver until the truck wheels contact the paver push roller. The mat can be marred if the shock is great enough. Spotters should be used to stop the trucks close to, but short of the paver. The paver should then move into contact with the truck.2. Have the truck start dumping.3. Use the auger direction and speed control levers to spread the first asphalt material across the front of the screed.4. When the head of asphalt is about half way up the auger, move the auger direction and speed control levers to the off position.Starting To Pave
1. When all personnel are ready, move propel levers (1) forward to bring the paver up to speed. The machine will start forward and the screed will ride off the wooden blocks or strips onto the asphalt. The truck brakes must be released enough to allow the paver to push the truck, but not enough to allow the truck to roll away from the paver.2. Pull vibration control knob (2) rearward to turn the vibrator system on.3. Check the head of material at the auger and adjust the hopper doors as necessary. The head of material should be kept as constant as possible. If the hopper doors are not open enough, there will not be enough material. If the hopper doors are open too much, the auger will be overloaded. The screw conveyor shaft should barely be covered or the top of the shaft should be visible. Material depth should be approximately the same across the width of the screw conveyor and should be controlled with the auger control levers.4. Check the mat thickness at several places across the
