Hot oil and hot components can cause personal injury. Do not allow hot oil or hot components to contact skin.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
The oil must be drained from the transmission before the scavenge screen is removed and cleaned.Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Torque Converter and Transmission Oil - Change" for information on draining the oil.

Note: Before you clean the torque converter scavenge screen, block the front frame of the machine.
Remove six bolts (1) and remove cover (2) from the transmission guard. This will allow access to the transmission case.The transmission guard is located underneath the tractor.

Remove bolts (3) and remove cover (4) from the bottom of the transmission case. This will allow access to the scavenge screen. Remove the gasket from the cover and the transmission case. This gasket must be replaced.Note: Oil may be released when cover (4) is removed.Note: The crankcase guard has been removed for photographic clarity. It is not necessary to remove the crankcase guard in order to access cover (4) .

Remove bolt (5) and remove scavenge screen (6) and hose (7) from the transmission case.Note: The scavenge screen is fastened to the hose.
Clean these components in clean, nonflammable solvent. Allow the components to dry.
Lubricate seal (8) with transmission oil and reposition scavenge screen (6) and hose (7) .
Install bolt (5) in order to secure the scavenge screen and the hose in place.
Install cover (4) with bolts (3) .
Install cover (2) with bolts (1) .
Clean up spilled oil.
