Disconnect the batteries before performance of any service work.
Be extra careful not to damage the tube on the ether starting aid when it is removed and installed.
1. Disconnect tube (5) from air inlet elbow (1). Disconnect electric wires (4) from ether starting aid (3). Remove bolts (2), and remove ether starting aid (3) and tube (5) from the panel. 2. Put identification on the electric wires as to their location on the starter. Disconnect wires (6), (7), (8), (9) and (10) from the starter. Two persons will be needed to remove and install the starter because of its weight. A strap fasened around the starter can be used to lift it out of the machine. 3. Remove the three bolts (12), and remove starter (11) from the machine. The weight of starter (11) is 27 kg (60 lb.).Install Starter
1. Put starter (1) and the gasket in position. Install the three bolts to hold starter (1), and tighten them to a torque of 205 27 N m (150 20 lb.ft.). 2. Connect wires (2), (3), (4), (5) and (6) to their correct location on the starter. 3. Put ether starting aid (7) in position on the panel, and install the bolts to hold it.4.
