Remove the tire and rim. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Tire and Rim - Remove". The information is in this manual.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide", for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Remove drain plug (2) from cover (1). Drain the oil from the wheel assembly. The fluid capacity in the wheel assembly is 1.9 L (2. qt). Remove bolts (3) and cover (1) from the wheel assembly.

Install Tooling (A), nylon lifting slings and a hoist to wheel assembly (4). Remove eight bolts (6) that secure retainer (5) and the shims to wheel assembly (4). Remove retainer (5) and the shims from wheel assembly (4).

Remove bearing cone (8) from shaft (7) .

Remove wheel assembly (4) from shaft (7). The weight of the wheel assembly is 159 kg (351 lb).
