Information:

Brake Band Assembly (1) 6S-3447 Pin. (2) 111-1455 Brake Band & Lining Assembly. (A) Lining inside diameter - 330.5 mm (13.01 in). (B) Brake drum outside diameter - 330.15 mm (12.998 in). (D) Dimension of 2.0 mm (.08 in). (E) Friction pad. (F) Band. (G) Bracket. (J) Dimension of 2.0 mm (.08 in). (K) Dimension of 4.0 mm (.16 in).Inspection procedures for brake band assembly's.
1. Lay brake band and lining assembly (2) on a hard, smooth and flat surface.2. Inspect outside bottom edges of welded bracket (G) for interference of an insufficient chamfered edge with the inside edge of the outside band wraps. Bottom edges of the bracket should be chamfered at least 2.0 mm (0.8 in) at a 45 degree angle to correct an interference problem. A chamfer as indicated by (J) and (K) of 2.0 mm by 4.0 mm (.08 by .16 in) is recommended. See Section H-H in the above illustration for clarification.3. Align eyelets and install pin (1).4. Tap center band wrap lightly around the outer edge to allow the bands to settle in place.5. Measure all noticeable steps between the center and outer wraps on the inner diameter. (Center wrap can be high or low with respect to either outer wrap. See Section C-C. Dimension (D) maximum step is acceptable.6. Install pin (1) in the eyelet the brake band assembly. The brake band assembly must fit loosely around the outside diameter of the drum as indicated in dimensions (A) and (B). Any brake band assembly's that are tight on the drum should not be used.
Special attention should be paid to the adjuster screw retention springs. Inspection should be made to ensure that the two springs are maintaining force on the adjusting screw before installation into the steering clutch case. Broken or missing springs cause the adjuster to back off during operation which results in frequent brake adjustment. The current 111-1455 Brake Band Assembly with two (2) springs is shown in the following chart.
Brake band assembly's must be handled with care during assembly, dis-assembly, and shipping. When the brake band assembly's and clutches are installed into a machine, 6S-3447 Pin (1) should be inserted in the end of the band assembly. A strap should be wrapped around the pin, through the adjuster hole, to the hoist, and back to the pin. Following these procedures ensure that the band is always kept in compression around the drum and reduces the chances of band damage.
