Typical example of steering clutch group. (1) 6S-3397 Shaft. (2) 5G-8708 Clutch Drum.The following procedures indicate how the clutch drum is to be pressed onto the shaft.
1. Both parts, 5G-8708 Clutch Drum and 6S-3397 Shaft must be free of all oils and greases.2. The clutch drum should be pressed onto the shaft with a press load of 120 10 KN (27 000 2250 lb).3. The press load specifications varies from published press loads now in the service manuals. The lower press load as indicated within this article provides sufficient loading for retention and should eliminate clutch drum cracking during or after the press operation. The information provided in this article supersedes all information published prior to this date, in regards to the press load of the clutch drum to shaft.
