Information:

Diesel engine exhaust contains products of combustion which may cause personal injury.Always start and operate the engine in a well ventilated area, and, if in an enclosed area, vent the exhaust to the outside.
In order to prevent personal injury from accidental screed movement, lock the screed in the RAISED position by using the service lock lever to extend the lock pins after the screed is fully raised.
Introduction
This procedure outlines the methods used to check the height of the tamper blades. If adjustment of the tamper blade height is necessary, the adjustment section of this procedure provides the correct steps.Check Preparation
Drive the machine to a smooth, horizontal surface. Fully retract the screed extenders.

Raise the screed and allow the tow arms to rest on screed service locks (1). Note: Refer to the tractor Operation and Maintenance manual for these procedures.
Shut the engine off.
Remove the covers from the extenders. Note: On the main screed sections the amplitude can be adjusted from the rear of the screed. The covers must be removed in order to adjust the amplitude on the extenders.

Right extender shown, the left extender is similar.
Remove bolts (2) and washers.
Remove cover (3). Check Procedure

Locate split (4) in adjuster collars (5).
Illustration 4 g03718670
The amplitude indication number (6) on the tamper shaft should line up with split (4) on adjuster collars (5).
If the amplitude needs to be adjusted, go to "Adjustment Procedure". Adjustment Procedure
Note: There are three distinct amplitude values: "2 mm", "4 mm" and "7 mm". These values represent the amount of amplitude for the tamper. Amplitude is measured from the bottom of the stroke to the top of the stroke.Note: The amplitude setting must be set to the same amplitude number for all the screed sections.
Illustration 5 g03718676
Remove both adjuster collar bolts (7).
Illustration 6 g03718670
Rotate both adjuster collars (5) in the same direction to achieve the desired amplitude setting. The amplitude setting is achieved when numbers (6) line up with split (4) in the adjuster collar.
Install adjuster collar bolts (7). Note: When setting the tamper to "4 mm" or "7 mm" amplitude, check to make sure the offset of the tamper bars is present. If the left main tamper bar is in the DOWN position, the right tamper must be in the UP position. If the main tamper bars are not offset, remove one end of the tamper shaft and rotate the tamper shaft 180 degrees. Note: A 180 degree offset is not possible when the tamper amplitude is set at the "2 mm" setting. When set at "2 mm", use the tamper shaft to adjust the offset to the maximum offset between the two main screed sections.
Position cover (3) and install bolts (2) and washers.
After setting the amplitude check and adjust the tamper blade, refer to Screed SE60XW VT Systems Operation Testing and Adjusting, "Tamper Bar - Check and Adjust".
After setting the amplitude calibrate the tamper, refer to Asphalt Paver Machine Systems Operation Testing and Adjusting, "Solenoid Valve (Tamper) - Calibrate".
