1. Fasten a hoist to the elevator guard (1). Remove four bolts (2) that hold the rock guard to the elevator. Remove the elevator guard. Weight is 81.6 kg (180 lb). 2. Fasten a hoist to the flights. Remove the bolts that hold each flight to the chain. Remove the flights. The weight of each flight is 68 kg (150 lb).3. Remove the tension from the chains by releasing the elevator chain top rollers. See section in this book, Elevator Chain Top Rollers. 4. Install tool (A) on the chain and tighten it until the chain link moves freely. Remove the pins, plate, and link from the chain. 5. It will be necessary in most cases to cut the pins to allow the links to be removed.6. Remove tool (A). Fasten a hoist to the chain. Turn the upper drive sprocket and let the chain fall in the scraper bowl. The weight of each chain is 158 kg (350 lb).Install Elevator Flights And Chains
1. Fasten a hoist to the chain. Put the chain in position over the upper drive sprocket and chain rollers.2. Install tool (A) on the chain and tighten it until the link can be installed. Install the plate and new pins on the link. 3. Install top roller back into position. See section in this book, Elevator Chain Top Rollers.4. Put the flights in position on the chains with a hoist. Install the bolts and nuts that hold the flights to the chain. Tighten the bolts to a torque of 287.4 to 315.9 N m (212 to 233 lb ft). See adjustment of elevator chain in "Testing and Adjusting" section. 5. Put rock guard (1) in position on the elevator with a hoist. Install bolts (2).
