Hoist lever position sensor circuit
This diagnostic code indicates the "Chassis" ECM detects an abnormal hoist lever position sensor signal pulse width. The following can cause this code:
Sensor failure
Intermittent connections
Poor connections
Loose mechanical devices
ECM failureNote: The following test procedure may create other diagnostic codes. Ignore these created codes and clear these created codes after the original diagnostic code has been corrected. Ensure diagnostic code CID 0773 FMI 08 is active before performing this procedure.Note: Use a calibrated digital multimeter for this procedure.Test Step 1. CHECK THE SENSOR SIGNAL CIRCUIT
Turn off the key switch and the disconnect switch.
At the back of the harness connector for the sensor, remove the multimeter probe from contact 1.
Insert the probe along the signal wire (contact 3).
At the back of the harness connector for the sensor, insert the multimeter probe along the ground wire (contact 2).
Turn on the disconnect switch and the key switch.
Monitor the sensor signal with a multimeter.
Without disconnecting the sensor or sensor hardware from the machine, take the sensor through the full operating range.Expected Result:The sensor responds as described at the beginning of this procedure. Results:
OK - The sensor responds correctly. Proceed to Test Step 2.
NOT OK - The sensor signal does not respond correctly. The sensor has failed.Repair: Replace the sensor.STOPTest Step 2. CHECK THE SIGNAL CIRCUIT AT THE ECM
Turn off the key switch and the disconnect switch.
At the back of the harness connector for the ECM, insert multimeter probes along J2-15 (wire M996-PK(Pink)) and J2-22 (wire J878-YL(Yellow)).
Turn on the disconnect switch and the key switch.
Monitor the sensor signal with a multimeter.
Without disconnecting the sensor or sensor hardware from the machine, take the sensor through the full operating range.Expected Result:The sensor responds as described at the beginning of this procedure. Results:
OK - The sensor responds as described at the beginning of this procedure. Proceed to Test Step 3.
NOT OK - The sensor does not respond as described at the beginning of this procedure. The harness has failed.Repair: Repair or replace the harness.STOPTest Step 3. CHECK FOR A SHORTThe key switch and the disconnect switch remain in the off position.
Disconnect the harness from the sensor and the ECM.
Measure the resistance between contact J2-15 (wire M996-PK(Pink)) and all contacts used in the harness connectors for the ECM.Expected Result:The resistance is greater than 5000 ohms. Results:
OK - The resistance is greater than 5000 ohms. Proceed to Test Step 4.
NOT OK - The resistance is less than 5000 ohms. The circuit is shorted.Repair: Repair or replace the harness.STOPTest Step 4. CHECK THE DIAGNOSTIC CODEThe key switch and the disconnect switch remain in the off position.
Inspect the harness.Clean the harness connector contacts.Inspect the harness connector contacts for corrosion or damage.Inspect the wire insulation for damage caused by heat, corrosion, or chafing.
Perform a 45 N (10 lb) pull test on each circuit wire.
Reconnect all harness connectors.Verify that the connectors are fully seated and the clips are fastened.
Check for intermittent problems. Use Cat® Electronic Technician
