The optional high efficiency fumes disposal system utilizes a separator assembly to filter crankcase blow-by fumes. It is a fit for life, serviceable component, and provides significant filtration efficiency improvements over the standard fumes disposal system. Blow-by fumes exit the crankcase through the valve cover integrated breathers, and are then routed to the separator assembly to remove oil aerosols and particulate matter. The filtered blow-by fumes are then routed through a disposal hose and released to the surroundings. The crankcase ventilation system provides an acceptable path for blow-by fumes to exit the crankcase, while ensuring crankcase pressure and oil carryover remain within accepted limits. A typical non-filtered system consists of one or more breathers and an appropriate number of disposal tubes. The primary function of the breather is to remove bulk oil droplets from the blow-by stream, while the disposal tube routes the blow-by stream to an appropriate release location. The optional high efficiency fumes disposal system utilizes a separator assembly and Valve Cover Integrated Breathers (VCIBs) to filter crankcase blow-by fumes. When compared to traditional breathers, the VCIB offers increased flow capacity, durability, and efficiency stability, while eliminating the need for scheduled cleaning or maintenance. In addition, the VCIB is a non-serviceable, fit-for-life component, and only needs replaced at each major engine overhaul (assuming standard engine operation). Tampering with the internal media is likely to cause permanent damage, and may lead to failures of nearby systems (valve train, lubrication system, and so on).The separator assembly contains a serviceable filter and provides significant filtration efficiency improvements over the standard fumes disposal system. Blow-by fumes exit the crankcase through the valve cover integrated breathers, and are then routed to the separator assembly to remove a percentage of the oil aerosols and particulate matter. The filtered blow-by fumes are then routed through a disposal hose to an appropriate release location. The primary diagnostic procedure for the crankcase ventilation system is to monitor crankcase pressure. The system is functioning properly as long as crankcase pressure remains within specified limits. If crankcase pressure does exceed specified limits, a trained technician should troubleshoot the issue.
