Machine Interlocks
Machine interlocks prevent operation of the machine. Certain conditions will prevent normal operation.Note: These conditions can appear to the operator as a system problem.Area Isolation System (AIS) Interlock Strategy
The AIS functions as the final machine interlock stage.AIS Barrier Control Panel
The AIS barrier control panel monitors four input signals:
Operator station shutdown switch
Barrier control panel shutdown switch
Lanyard switch
LADAR sensor (if equipped) or gate proximity switch (if equipped) If an input signal ceases because a barrier has tripped or a fault has been detected, the AIS barrier control panel will signal the Barrier Shutdown Module (BSM) to stop sending an enable signal to the Machine Automation System (MAS). The engine will stop and the parking brakes will engage.AIS Barrier Control Enabled

AIS barrier control (1) panel enabled - AIS barrier control indicator (1) indicates that the AIS is armed, the machine is receiving an enable signal and is ready to start. AIS Barrier Control Panel Disabled

AIS barrier control (2) panel disabled - The AIS barrier control panel will signal the BSM to stop sending an enable signal to the MAS. The input signal ceases because:
A barrier has tripped
A fault has been detectedThe engine will stop and the parking brakes will engage. AIS barrier control indicator (2) indicates that the AIS barrier control is not armed.
