DRIVE GP-CIRCLE 8X5302 - Caterpillar

1. Remove the four nuts and bolts (2) on the front end of the drive shaft.2. Remove the four bolts from the rear of the drive shaft at yoke on the transfer gear case.
The drive shaft will fall when it is free of both yokes that hold it in position. Hold the drive shaft when it is loosened from the yokes.
3. Loosen drive shaft (1) from both yokes and remove it. Weight of the drive shaft is 86 lb (39 kg). 4. Loosen collar (3) on the shaft and slide it back. 5. Remove bolts (4) and the nuts that hold bearing cage (5) in the main frame of the machine.6. Slide bearing cage (5) and the shaft out of the main frame and remove it. Weight of the unit is 132 lb (60 kg). 7. Remove four nuts and bolts (6) from the yoke and remove spider and bearing assembly (7).Install Main Drive Shaft Group
1. Put bearing cage (1) into position in the main frame of the machine. Push drive shaft (3) part of the way into the frame. 2. Use a floor jack as a support for the end of drive shaft (3) while the drive shaft is pushed into position.3. Slide spider and bearing assembly (4) on the splined end of drive shaft (3). Pull both parts as a unit until spider and bearing assembly (4) can be installed on the yoke of the differential.4. Install the four nuts and bolts (2) that hold the spider and bearing assembly to the yoke. Tighten the bolts to a torque of 115 5 lb ft (156 7 N m). 5. Push the bearing cage and drive shaft (1) into the main frame. Put the holes in the cage in alignment with the holes in the frame. Install the bolts, nuts and washers (6) that hold the cage.6. Slide collar (5) and the seal in position on the shaft and tighten it. 7. Put drive shaft (7) in position between the frames of the machine. Install the bolts and nuts that hold it. Tighten the bolts to a torque of 115 5 lb ft (156 7 N m).Disassemble Main Drive Shaft Group
Start By:a) remove main drive shaft group1. Put the main drive shaft group in a vertical position on wood block as shown.
Put a small wood block under the shaft in the main drive shaft group. This will keep the shaft in position when bolts (1) are removed.
2. Remove bolts (1), retainer (2), the shim pack and O-ring seal from the end of the shaft. Remove yoke assembly (3). 3. Install two 3/8 "-16 NC forged eyebolts in cage (4). Fasten a hoist to the cage and remove it from the shaft. Weight of the cage is 56 lb (25 kg). 4. Remove bolts (5) and retainer (6) from the cage. Remove the shims from under the retainer. 5. Remove seal (7) from the retainer. 6. Remove bearing (8) from the cage. Check the
