(1) Oil sampling valveOil sampling valve (1) for the transmission oil is located on the transmission oil filter.SOS oil samples need to be taken when the engine is running and the oil is at operating temperature. The SOS oil analysis can be used two ways. (1) Before the oils is drained for an oil change the analysis indicates past transmission wear on contamination issues. (2) If the SOS sample is taken at 15,000 miles and the oil is not changed, it can be used as an indicator of the need for future oil and/or filter changes.Refer to Special Publication, PEHP6001, "How To Take A Good Oil Sample". Also, refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "S O S Information" and Special Publication, SEBU6250, "S O S Oil Analysis" for additional information about obtaining an oil sample.
