Position rocker shaft assembly (4) on the engine.
Position harness assembly (3).
Use clean engine oil to lubricate the bolts (2) that hold the rocker shaft assemblies in position. Install the bolts (2) on the rocker shaft assemblies.
Use the following procedure to tighten the bolts.
Illustration 4 g03331961
Tighten bolts 15 through 18 in the numerical sequence to 270 27 N m (200 18 lb ft).
Tighten bolts 15 through 18 in a numerical sequence to a torque of 450 20 N m (332 15 lb ft).
Do Step 3b again in order to ensure that the bolts are tightened to the correct torque.

Lubricate the dowels of the valve bridge with clean engine oil. Install valve bridges (5) in the original positions on the engine. Use the following procedure to adjust the bridges.
Lubricate the passage of the bridge with clean engine oil.
Back off the adjustment screw. Press straight down on the top contact surface of the bridge with a force of 40 to 60 N (9 to 13 lb).
Turn the adjustment screw clockwise until contact is made with the valve stem.
Turn the screw for an additional 20 to 30 degrees (1/3 flat) in order to equalize the clearance with the dowel.
Hold the adjustment screw in position, and tighten the locknut to a torque of 47 9 N m (35 7 lb ft).
Use Tooling (A) to ensure that there will be no pressure against pushrod (1) and the rocker arm. Use Tooling (B) to pull rocker arm away from the pushrod. Install pushrod (1) in position under the rocker arm. If the rocker arm cannot be moved enough to install the pushrod in position, turn the crankshaft with Tooling (A).
Adjust the valves in order to have a clearance of 0.038 mm (0.0015 inch) for intake and 0.76 mm (0.030 inch) for exhaust. Refer to Testing and Adjusting , "Valve Clearance Setting". End By:
Install the transformers.
