Diagram of the J1939 (CAN B) Data Link connections.The Cat Data Link and the J1939 (CAN) Data Links are separate inputs and outputs of the ECM. The data link circuits enable communication between the various electronic control modules through the machine wiring harness. The data link systems are not visible components. The two data link systems consist of internal ECM circuits and the connecting harness wiring. Both of the data links are bidirectional. The data links allow the ECM to receive information, and the data links allow the ECM to send information.The Implement ECM will communicate with the following control modules over the Cat Data Link.
Transmission/Chassis ECM.
Engine Control #1 ECM (Tractor Engine ECM).
Engine Control #2 ECM (Scraper Engine ECM), if equipped.
Product Link ECM.
Scraper Transmission ECM.The Implement ECM will communicate with the following control modules over the CAN A Data Link.
Transmission/Chassis ECM.
Engine Control #2 ECM (Scraper Engine ECM), if equipped.
Engine Control #1 ECM (Tractor Engine ECM).
Monitor.The Implement ECM will communicate with the following control modules over the CAN B Data Link.

8 Button Scraper Keypad.The Cat Electronic Technician (Cat ET) also communicates with the control modules on the Cat Data Link.
