Remove the four bolts and the washers that secure cover (2) to the housing. Remove the cover.
Put identification marks on all hoses for installation purposes. Plug the hoses in order to help prevent fluid loss and contamination of the fluid system.

Remove 40 bolts (4), the nuts, and the washers that secure the upper housing to the ring gear. Use the hoist in order to remove the upper housing. Route the hydraulic hoses through the upper housing while the housing is being removed. The weight of the housing is 228 kg (503 lb).

Clean all parts and inspect all parts. If any parts are worn or damaged, use new Caterpillar parts for replacement.
Lubricate O-ring seals with clean hydraulic fluid.

Route the hydraulic hoses through the upper housing while the housing is being installed. Install 40 bolts (4), the nuts, and the washers that secure the upper housing to the ring gear. Install pin (1) in order to prevent the work tool from rotating. Tighten the bolts to a torque of 660 40 N m (487 30 lb ft).
