Loosen bolts (16) slowly and loosen the bolts evenly in order to partially release the spring tension in the brake housing.
After the spring tension has been released, remove bolts (16), washers (17), and retainer (18) from the brake housing. Remove friction discs (19) and brake plates (20).

Attach Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device onto brake housing (3). The weight of brake housing (3) is approximately 187 kg (412 lb). Remove bolts (21) and remove brake housing (3). Turn over brake housing (3).

Attach Tooling (D) and a suitable lifting device to brake housing (3) in order to support brake housing (3) and the other components. The weight of brake housing (3) and the other components is approximately 187 kg (412 lb).
Position shaft assembly (24) on a flat surface. Remove bolts (22) and plate (23). Raise brake housing (3) in order to remove brake housing (3) and the other components from shaft assembly (24).

Remove seal rings (25) from shaft assembly (24).
Remove bearing (26) from shaft assembly (24).

Position the retainer and the other components in brake housing (3) on a suitable wood block, as shown. The weight of brake housing (3) with the other components is approximately 187 kg (412 lb).
Remove bolts (27) and washers (28). Remove brake housing (3) from the retainer and the other components. The weight of brake housing (3) is approximately 105 kg (231 lb).

Note: Mark the position of springs (30) before you remove springs (30).Note: The weight of the retainer, the piston, and the springs is approximately 59 kg (131 lb).
Remove ring (29), springs (30), and ring (31) from piston (32).

Remove piston (32) and seal ring (33) from retainer (35). Remove seal ring (33) from piston (32).
Remove seal ring (34) from retainer (35).

Reposition retainer (35). The weight of retainer (35) is approximately 21 kg (46 lb). Remove bearing cup (36) from retainer (35).

Use Tooling (D) and a suitable lifting device in order to position brake housing (3), as shown. The weight of brake housing (3) is approximately 105 kg (231 lb).
Remove O-ring seals (38) and remove spring (40) and spool (39) from brake housing (3). Make a note of the orientation and assembly of spring (40) and spool (39). Failure to reinstall the components properly can result in damage to the steering clutches
