These changes may result in the incorrect fit of the wedge. Later change levels of the cap and wedge incorporate a thinner wedge. The use of a later change level wedge with the earlier version of the cap results in the wedge falling out of the bolted joint. This could lead to the failure of the idler mounting bolt.
Until changes to the cap and wedge are made, all 6I9888 Wedges in inventory should be sorted. Only wedges with measurement of 9.0 mm (.35 in) height on the thick end should be used. Do Not Use wedges which measure less than the 9.0 mm (.35 in) on the thick end. A wedge which measures 9.0 mm (.35 in) may be used with either change level of the 6I9889 Cap Assembly. It should be noted that the 9.0 mm (.35 in) wedge used with later versions of the cap assembly may not push in flush with the end of the cap. This still provides an acceptable bolted joint.
