Schematic of the lift linkage position sensorThis diagnostic code is recorded when the ECM determines that the signal for the lift linkage position sensor is too low. The diagnostic code is recorded when the implement ECM reads a value that is lower than the calibrated value. The lift linkage position sensor is a PWM sensor. The signal wire for the lift linkage position sensor connects to connector contact J2-32 (wire C530-BU) of the ECM.The possible causes of this code are listed:
The rotation or replacement of the lift linkage position sensor without proper calibration may cause a diagnostic code. The position sensor could rotate farther than normal in one direction.Note: Ensure that the diagnostic code is active and that the diagnostic code indicator is active.System Response:The machine response is listed:
The lift cylinder snubbing, lift kickouts, and the lower kickout may not work correctly.
If the diagnostic code is active for three seconds, then the 350-13diagnostic code will become active.Test Step 1. CHECK ADJUSTMENT
Check the mounting hardware for the lift linkage position sensor. The fasteners should be tight. If the hardware shows any sign of damage, the hardware should be replaced.
Ensure that the diagnostic code is active.
Observe the ON/OFF status of the diagnostic code indicator as the lift arm is fully raised and lowered.Expected Result:The diagnostic code indicator is not active. Results:
YES - The diagnostic code indicator is not active.Repair: The diagnostic code is not active now. Clear the diagnostic code. Stop.
NO - The diagnostic code indicator is active. Proceed to Test Step 2.Test Step 2. CHECK THE DUTY CYCLE
Turn the engine start switch to the OFF position.
Install a 9U-7330 Digital Multimeter with a 7X-1710 to the connector for the ECM. Connect the multimeter to contacts J2-32 and J1-70.
Start the engine. Raise the lift linkage to the full RAISE position. Record the duty cycle.
Tilt the work tool to the full TILTBACK position.
Lower the lift linkage to the full LOWER position. Record the duty cycle.Expected Result:The duty cycle is between 10% and 90%.Results:
YES - The duty cycle is correct. Proceed to Test Step 3.
NO - The duty cycle is not correct.Repair: Ensure that the lift linkage position sensor is moving with the lift linkage. Proceed to Test Step 4.Test Step 3. CALIBRATE THE LIFT LINKAGE POSITION SENSOR.
Connect the Caterpillar Electronic Technician to the machine.
Run the program for calibrating the tilt linkage position sensor.
Check for an active diagnostic code.Expected Result:The diagnostic code indicator should be inactive. Results:
YES - The diagnostic code is inactive. The machine is repaired. Resume normal operations. Stop.
NO - The diagnostic code is still active. Proceed to Test Step 4.Test Step 4. REPLACE THE SENSOR AND RECALIBRATE THE SENSOR.
The diagnostic code may be caused by a failed sensor.
Replace the sensor and recalibrate the sensor. See Testing and Adjusting, "Position Sensor for the Lift and Tilt Linkage (Electronic Technician) - Calibrate".
Ensure that the diagnostic code is active.
Observe the ON/OFF status of the diagnostic code indicator as the lift linkage position sensor is fully raised and lowered.Expected Result:The new sensor corrected the
