Introduction
Reference: For systems operation information and testing and adjusting information of the electronic systems, make reference to the Engine And Pump Electronic Control System module, SENR6155Reference: For electrical circuit schematics, make reference to the Electrical System Schematic module, SENR6183.The starting and charging system consists of a start/stop circuit, a charging circuit and a preheat circuit. The electrical system schematics in this module are simplified schematics used for systems operation explanation only. These schematics don't show all the possible harness connectors. The wire numbers and colors used are typical for these circuits, the actual wire number and color used on a machine may be different. For complete and accurate electrical system schematic and harness information, refer to the Electrical System Schematic module in the machine service manual. The electrical circuits can only be activated when the disconnect switch is in the ON position.Charging Circuit (All Machines)
Charging Circuit Schematic
(1) Safety relay. (2) Starter motor. (3) Alternator. (4) Alternator circuit breaker. (5) Key switch fuse. (6) Key start switch. (7) Batteries. (8) Disconnect switch. This circuit uses alternator (3) to charge batteries (7) during engine operation and to supply current to the low current circuit through the fuse box. When key start switch (6) is placed in the ON position, initial current goes to alternator (3). The field coil of alternator (3) is initially energized. When the engine has started, the charged current from terminal B of alternator (3) goes through alternator circuit breaker (4) to batteries (7). Alternator (3) supplies current to the components in the electric system.Start/Stop Circuit (4YM And 6YM Machines)
Start/Stop Circuit Schematic
(1) Safety relay. (2) Starter motor. (3) Alternator. (4) Alternator circuit breaker. (5) Key switch fuse. (6) Key start switch. (7) Batteries. (8) Disconnect switch. (9) Neutral start switch. (10) Main relay. (11) Engine shutdown relay. (12) Start relay. (13) Controller. (14) Engine shutdown solenoid. This circuit starts and stops the engine. When key start switch (6) is placed in the START position with the hydraulic activation control lever in the LOCKED position, there is current flow through neutral start switch (9) to start relay (12). The start relay contacts are closed which enables current flow to the starter solenoid. If key start switch (6) is placed in the START position with the hydraulic activation control lever in the UNLOCKED position, no current flows to start relay (12) because neutral start switch (9) is open. The engine will not start. As the starter solenoid contacts close, there is a large current flow from positive (+) terminal of batteries (7) to terminal B of starter motor (2). The plunger in the starter solenoid shifts and lets the pinion of starter motor (2) operate. The pinion engages with the ring gear on the engine flywheel to start the engine. Releasing key start switch (6) returns the plunger in the starter solenoid to its original position and causes the pinion of the starter motor to disengage from the flywheel ring gear. When alternator (3) starts to generate electricity, a signal is sent from
