Hot oil and hot components can cause personal injury. Do not allow hot oil or hot components to contact skin.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Take extreme care to insure the cleanliness of the hydraulic oil. Keep the hydraulic oil clean in order to extend the component life and assure the maximum performance.
Open the engine compartment.

Remove the hydraulic tank filler cap.

The hydraulic oil filter is located toward the right side of the machine.
Clean the hydraulic oil filter location.
Remove the filter with a strap type wrench.
Clean the filter housing base. Remove any existing gasket material.
Apply a light coat of hydraulic oil to the gasket on the new filter.
Use your hand to install the new filter. When the seal contacts the base, tighten the filter element for an additional three quarters of a turn.
Refer to illustration 1. With the machine on level ground, check the hydraulic oil level in the sight gauge. The oil level should be visible in the sight gauge.
Add required oil. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual , "Hydraulic System Oil Level - Check".
Close the engine compartment.
