Hot oil and hot components can cause personal injury. Do not allow hot oil or hot components to contact skin.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Note: Cleanliness must be a priority when you change the hydraulic oil.Note: Change the oil in a clean work area. Use clean tools. Make sure that you have clean hands.
Operate the machine enough to warm the oil. The machine should be level with the parking brake engaged and the engine stopped.
Open the engine compartment.

Remove the hydraulic tank filler cap.

Remove the drain plug from the bottom of the hydraulic tank. Drain the oil to a suitable container. Allow the oil to drain until the hydraulic tank is empty.
Install the drain plug.
Fill the hydraulic tank with clean, approved hydraulic oil. See Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Lubricant Viscosities and Capacities (Refill)". Clean the hydraulic tank filler cap and install the filler cap.
Start the engine and allow the oil to warm. Stop the engine.
Refer to illustration 1. Maintain the proper oil level in the sight gauge. This level is between the "FULL" mark and the "ADD" mark on the decal next to the sight glass.
Close the engine compartment.
