Place guard (1) in position over the exhaust manifold, as shown. Align the mounting holes in guard (1) with the two bolt holes in the valve cover and with the two studs (S). See Illustration 7.Note: The muffler has been removed in Illustration 7 for clarity.Reinstall two bolts (U) with two hard washers (V) in order to secure the inside edge of guard (1) and the valve cover.Note: Tighten bolts (U) to a torque of 12 N m (8.85 lb ft).

Reinstall the two studs (S). Then, reinstall two nuts (R) on each stud (S) in order to secure the outside edge of guard (1) and the base of the turbocharger to the exhaust manifold. See Illustration 8.Note: Tighten the nuts (R) to a torque of 12 3 N m (8.9 2.2 lb ft).Note: Replace studs (S) with new studs, if necessary.Note: Apply anti-seize compound (3) to the threads of studs (S) before reinstalling the nuts.

Reinstall pipe (K) by performing Step 3.a and Step 3.b.Note: Refer to Illustration 9 or Illustration 10, as needed.Note: For clarity, the muffler has been removed in Illustration 9 and in 10.
Slip the end of pipe (K) into the open end of hose (H). Align the pipe's flange with the turbocharger's flange.Note: Place gasket (P) between the two flanges. At this point, reinstall bolt (N) with hard washer (O) in the flange's front bolt hole. Tighten bolt (N) to a torque of 22 N m (16.23 lb ft).
Slide clamps (J) in position and tighten the clamps in order to secure hose (H) to the pipe. Tighten the clamps to a torque of 4.5 0.5 N m (3.32 0.37 lb ft).Installing the 280-8355 Guard As
