Do not operate the machine if any guards or covers are missing or inadequately secured. Personnel could be seriously injured or machine damage may occur.
Observe the safe working load limits of all lifting and blocking devices and keep a safe distance from suspended/blocked loads. Personnel may be seriously injured or killed by falling loads.
Do not allow dirt to enter the fuel system. Thoroughly clean the area around a fuel system component that will be disconnected. Fit a suitable cover over any disconnected fuel system components.
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.

Refer to Special Instruction , REHS9423. In addition, also perform one more flush as reported below in this instruction. If you do not wish to update to CAT SATO, follow the same procedure below using CAT TMS oil.For 966M XE and 972M XE machines, CAT SATO is the preferred oil. Refer to Table 1 for specific part number available through Exxon / Mobil®.Note: Cat oils are ordered directly from Exxon / Mobil® and are not available for ordering through the Cat Parts ordering system. Operate the engine in order to warm the transmission oil (30 min or > 60 °C (140 °F) transmission oil temperature). Park the machine on level ground. Lower the bucket and apply slight downward pressure.
Engage the park brake. Stop the engine.

Remove the transmission filler cap (allows oil to drain faster). The filler is located on the left side of the machine in front of the ladder. Refer to Illustration 1.

Remove drain plug on the bottom of the transfer case. Refer to Illustration 2.

(A) Oil cooler lines
After the oil flow has slowed, remove the two transmission oil cooler lines at the cold oil bypass valve as shown in Illustration 3. Drain the cooler.
After the transmission draining is complete, reinstall the drain plug and oil cooler lines.
Refill the transmission with new oil. For suggested oil type and amounts refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, SEBU8749, "Lubricant Viscosities and Refill Capacities" for 966K XE machines. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, SEBU9117, "Lubricant Viscosities and Refill Capacities" for 966M XE and 972M XE machines.
Repeat Step 1 to Step 6 to mix the remaining oils together and flush the system.
Replace both transmission oil filters. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, SEBU8749, "Transmission Oil Filter - Replace" for 966K XE machines. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, SEBU9117, "Transmission Oil Filter - Replace" for 966M XE and 972M XE machines.
