Remove the vibration damper.

Use a punch or Tooling (A) to put a hole in seal (1). Use Tooling (A) to remove seal (1) from the timing gear cover.Note: Replace the wear sleeve when the front seal is replaced.

Install Tooling (C) in the seal bore.
Install Tooling (B) between Tooling (C) and the wear sleeve. Turn Tooling (B) until the edge of the tool makes a flat (crease) in the wear sleeve. Perform this operation in two or more places until the wear sleeve is loose.
Remove Tooling (C) and the wear sleeve.Installation Procedure

Illustration 3 g01422718Note: The wear sleeve and the seal must be installed at the same time.
Install the crankshaft front seal and the wear sleeve with Tooling (D), as follows:
Use Tooling (E) to clean the inside diameter of wear sleeve and the outside diameter of crankshaft . Apply Tooling (F) to the outside diameter of crankshaft and the inside diameter of wear sleeve.
Install locator (2) and the bolts on the front of the crankshaft gear.
The wear sleeve and the seal come as a set. The seal is installed on the wear sleeve.Note: Install the crankshaft front seal with the arrow that shows the direction of crankshaft rotation toward the front of the engine.
Put the wear sleeve and the seal on locator (2).

Put installer (3) in position on locator (2).
Put clean engine oil on the face of nut (4) and the contact area on installer (3). Install nut (4) onto the stud of locator (2).
Tighten nut (4) until installer (3) is seated with locator (2).
Remove Tooling (D) and check the wear sleeve and the seal for correct installation.End By:
Install the vibration damper. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Vibration Damper - Install".
