For complete brake adjustment procedures, see 518 SKIDDER AIR SYSTEM & BRAKES SPECIFICATIONS, Form No. REGO1315.1. Disconnect return spring from pedal.2. Release the pressure from the air tank trough the drain valve.3. With the brake pedal released, make an adjustment to bolt (3) until dimension (A) between roller and plunger of the brake control valve is 0.25 0.12 mm (.010 .005 in). Tighten locknut (4) to 12 4 N m (9 3 lb ft).4. Push the brake pedal down fully.5. Adjust bolt (1) until it contacts with the brake pedal.6. Release the brake pedal and turn bolt (1) in (clockwise) one half turn. Tighten locknut (2) to 70 14 N m (50 11 lb ft).7. Start the engine and let the pressure go up to the cutout setting.
Do not remove the plugs on the side of the brake control valve. System air pressure up to 760 kPa (110 psi) can be at these plugs. Removal of these plugs will release air under pressure, causing personal injury.
8. Remove the plug marked "SEC DEL" in the bottom of the brake control valve.9. Push the brake pedal down fully. Pressure air must be released through the outlet in the bottom of the brake control valve.10. If pressure air is not released through the outlet repeat the brake pedal adjustment procedure.11. Install the plug and connect the return spring.
