16. Use two persons and install reverse idler shaft (26) assembly in the transmission housing.17. Put wooden blocks under the reverse idler shaft as a support for the shaft. 18. Install sleeve (27), bearings (28) and gear (29) on the pinion shaft. 19. Install spacer (30) and sleeve (31) on the pinion shaft. 20. Install the bearing that fits inside gear (32). Install gear (32) on the pinion shaft.21. Make an alignment of the hole in the pinion shaft with the hole in gear (33) and install gear (33) on the pinion shaft. 22. Install dowel (34) and ring (35) in the gear. 23. Install bearing (36) in the bearing cage. Put bearing cage (37) in position on the upper shaft. 24. Install lubrication tube assembly (38) in the transmission housing. 25. Put cover (39) in position against the bearing cage. Install lock (40) and bolts (41). Bend the lock up. 26. Install gears (45) and (43). Install spacers (44) and (42) on the upper shaft. 27. Heat bearing (46) to a maximum temperature of 275°F (135°C). Install the bearing on the upper shaft. 28. Put the lock and nut on the upper shaft. Use tooling (A) and tighten the nut. Use a block of wood (47) so the shaft will not turn. 29. Heat bearing race (48) to a maximum temperature of 275°F (135°C). Install bearing race (48) on countershaft (49). Install retainer (50) on the end of the countershaft. 30. Install countershaft (49) in the transmission housing. The location of the gears and spacers on the primary reduction shaft is very important, so an assembly is necessary before the final assembly. 31. Install spacers (52) and (54) and bearing retainer (51) on the primary reduction shaft (53). Tighten the retainer bolts to a torque of 94 5 lb.ft. (125 7 N m). Spacer (54) is a two inch diameter standard black pipe (2 1/16 inside diameter) two inches long. 32. Install the gears, sleeves, spacers (55) and (56), collar, bearing (58) and nut (57) on the primary reduction shaft. See ILLUSTRATION 49355X3 on page 6-85 for correct assembly.33. Use tooling (B) and tighten nut (57) to a torque of 60 10 lb.ft. (80 14 N m). Remove retainer (51), spacers, sleeves, collar and the gears from the primary reduction shaft. 34. Install primary reduction shaft (53) in the transmission housing. 35. Install spacer (56) sleeve (60) on the primary reduction shaft. Install gear (61) on the sleeve.36. Install gear (59), collar (62) and sleeve (63) on the primary reduction shaft. 37. Install gear (64) and spacers (55) on the primary reduction shaft.38. Install gear (65) on the countershaft.39. Install collar (66) on the pinion shaft gear. 40. Install bearing (67) and gear (68) on the pinion shaft. 41. Install pin (69) in the pinion shaft. Install spacer (70). 42.
