Personal injury or death can result from sudden machine movement.Sudden movement of the machine or release of air pressure or oil pressure can cause injury to persons on or near the machine.To help prevent possible injury before testing and adjusting any air system or hydraulic system, perform the procedure in the Testing and Adjusting, "General Information" section.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Check the level of the oil in the hydraulic tank for the steering and brake systems. Keep the tank full during the air removal procedure.

Bleeder Screw for the Service Brakes (1) Bleeder screw.
Use the following steps to remove the air from the oil that is in the brake system: Start the engine and allow the brake accumulators to charge fully. Connect a hose to bleeder screw (1) at each of the service brakes.
Run the engine at low idle. Open bleeder screw (1) in order to allow a flow of oil through the hose. Push the service brake pedal and hold the pedal until the flow of oil from the hose is free of air bubbles. Close the bleeder screw. Perform this procedure for each of the service brakes but only one brake at a time.
Fill the hydraulic tank for the steering and brake systems to the correct level.
Note the feel of the brakes within the first hours of operation. Repeat the air removal procedure if the service brakes are spongy or if the service brakes are soft.
