Example Cross Section View (1) Blade (2) Cross Section Of Design FeaturesNote: The Cross Section View of the blade will decrease in width as you angle the blade away from the direction of travel when a machine is on one of the following designs: SV Design, Triangular Irregular Network, Grid, 3D Lines, Sloping Surface and Level Surface.Table 1 explains the items shown in Illustration 1. These surfaces are available for all design types including road designs. For more information, Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Vertical Guidance Method - Set".
Table 1
Cross Section Surfaces
Item     Description
Design Surface     The surface defined by the design.
The design surface is displayed in the following colors:
Black, if the design surface is the working surface
Red, if the design surface is the working surface and the vertical offset is zero
Gray, if a working surface has been specified
The Cross Section is projected square to the machine's direction of travel from the center of the blade. The Cross Section extends up to "100 m" each side of the machine.
Working Surface     An intermediate target surface. The working surface is displayed in the following colors:
Black, if the vertical offset is non-zero and a temporary working surface has been specified
Red, if the vertical offset is zero and there is no temporary working surface
Temporary Working Surface     A surface vertically offset from the working surface. This is the surface that is being cut to or filled to on this run. The temporary working surface is displayed in red.    For a road design, the Cross Section is calculated through the blade tip with focus and at right angles to the road's master alignment. Illustration 2 shows the Cross Section View of a road design, with the design surface selected as the working surface, and with no vertical offset applied.

Cross Section View of a road design showing road alignments (6) Master alignmentNote: When a machine is on a road design, the Cross Section View of the blade will decrease in width as you turn the machine away from the direction of the master alignment. Table 2 explains the items shown in Illustration 2.
Table 2
Cross Section Surfaces
Item     Description
Master alignment     The master alignment is a specific design alignment and shows as a short thin black vertical line above and below the Cross Section.
Design alignments     Design alignments mark changes in grade along the Cross Section. Design alignments are indicated by tick marks along the cross section.
Side slope     At the edge of a road, side slopes are used to grade the ground between the design and the natural ground level. The side slopes are drawn to the edge of the screen.
