735B/740B Articulated Truck Data Link Communication SystemThe Chassis ECM has three separate data links:
CAT Data Link
CAN J1939 Data CAN A
CAN J1939 Data CAN BThe data links send and receive information for the Chassis ECM. CAT and CAN A Data Links are used to communicate with the Engine ECM, the Transmission/Chassis ECM, and the display modules on the machine. The CAN B Data Link is used to communicate with the Inertial Measurement Sensor on the machine.Input/Output
CAT Data Link and CAN J1939 Data Link act as inputs and outputs on the Chassis ECM. The data links send and receive information from the other ECMs or displays on the system.Data Link Diagnostics
The J1939-CAN Data Link and the CAT Data Link on the machine are monitored by the Chassis ECM for abnormal conditions. The Chassis ECM will activate the diagnostic code for a specific ECM and for a specific data link, also known as the "companion" diagnostic code. Below is a list of companion diagnostic codes for the Chassis ECM:
CID 0247 - FMI 09 or FMI 14- J1939 CAN Data Link
CID 0248 - FMI 09 or FMI 14 - Cat Data LinkBelow is an example of how the companion codes are used:
The Chassis ECM communicates with the Transmission ECM over the J1939-CAN Data Link.
When expected data is not received, the Chassis ECM activates a CID 296 FMI 14 (Transmission ECM - Special Instruction - not receiving expected information) diagnostic code. The Chassis ECM also activates CID 0247 FMI 14 to indicate which data link is involved.Note: When the primary diagnostic code clears, the companion diagnostic code will also clear. CID 0247 or CID 0248 companion diagnostic codes will always activate when any of the following ECM codes are activated by the Chassis ECM.ECM or Display CID List.CID 0296 - Transmission ECMCID 0588 - CMPDCID 0590 - Engine ECM
