Inspect the cover and O-ring (10). If either part is damaged, replace the part.
Inspect the filter cartridge for debris and for damage. If necessary, replace the filter cartridge.
Remove the filter element. Perform Step 4.a through Step 4.f in order to remove the filter element.

Make sure that plug (8) is removed. Make sure that all of O-ring (11) is removed from plate (12).

Remove spiral retaining ring (13).

Hold the filter cartridge with one hand. Grasp the grip of plate (12) with your other hand. Lift plate (12) in order to separate plate (12) from the filter cartridge.
Remove O-ring (16) from plate (8).
Lift filter element (14) from shell (15).
Pour the remaining oil into a suitable container. Note: Dispose of used oil according to local regulations.
Repeat Step 4.a through Step 4.f for the other filter groups.
Clean the shell of the filter cartridge. Perform Step 5.a through Step 5.d in order to clean the shell of the filter cartridge.

Turn shell (15) upside-down.
Remove screws (18).
Remove blocking pads (20) from slide plate (17).
Wash the following parts in a clean nonflammable solvent: plug (8), plate (12), spiral retaining ring (13), shell (15) and blocking pads (20). Dry the parts.
Install the filter elements. Perform Step 6.a through Step 6.k in order to install the filter elements. Note: Consult a Caterpillar dealer for the Service Kit that is needed to install the filter element and the filter cartridge.
Apply spray type oil to the inside of shell (15) in order to prevent rust.
Apply grease to a new O-ring (16).
Plate (12) will contact the inside of shell (15). Apply grease to this point.
Apply grease to O-rings inside ports (19) at the bottom of shell (15).
Install new blocking pads (20) with screws (18). Tighten the screws to a torque of 0.4 N m (3.5 lb in).
Apply spray type oil into the clearance between shell (15) and slide plate (17).

Turn over shell (15). Apply grease to the two O-rings on new element (14). Install element (14) into shell (15).
Move boss (B) in alignment with notch (C). Install plate (12) into shell (15).
Install spiral retaining ring (13) into the groove in shell (15).
Apply grease to new O-ring (11). Install O-ring (11) on plug (8).
Install plug (8) into plate (12).
Install the filter cartridge. Perform Step 7.a through Step 7.e in order to install the filter cartridge.
