Use the part numbers 169-8373 Fluid Sampling Bottle and 162-8873 Probe Holder for the S O S oil sample. The S O S oil samples consist of the probe (1 ), rubber tube (2), bottle (4), and probe holder (3). Use a new piece of tubing for each machine or engine. You should discard the tubing after sampling engine oil. Oil additives and soot may remain in the rubber tube and contaminate other S O S oil samples.Take the oil samples as close as possible to the standard intervals. In order to receive the full value from S O S oil analysis, you must establish a consistent trend of data. In order to establish a pertinent history of data, perform consistent oil samplings that are evenly spaced.

Remove the left engine side panel. Refer to the following items for the location of the multipurpose ports.

Sampling port for the rear final driveSet the engine at low idle and remove the dust cap from the multipurpose ports. Insert the probe into the multipurpose port and collect about 100 mL (4 fl oz) of oil into the suitable container. Dispose of the first oil sample into the suitable container. (This process clears the multipurpose port from any residual debris.)Insert the probe into the multipurpose port. Fill the oil sample bottle until the bottle is 75 percent full. Do not fill to the top. Do not allow any dirt to enter the bottle or bottle cap.Withdraw the probe from the multipurpose port and the bottle and secure the cap on the bottle.

( 1 ) The S O S oil samples are recommended intervals. Refer to the results of the S O S oil analysis in order to determine if the oil change interval should be increased or the oil change interval should be decreased.
( 2 ) If the API category is less than CG-4, the oil change interval should be changed to 250 hours. If the sulfur content is greater than 1.5% by weight, the oil change interval should be changed to 250 hours.The rear differential is not sampled due to the inboard brakes. If an S O S oil sample is taken from the rear axle the analysis would indicate a high level of contaminants.
