15. Slide a piece of pipe through the differential, and fasten a hoist to it as shown. Remove differential (15) from the carrier assembly. The weight of the differential is 168 kg (370 lb). 16. Using tooling (D), remove bearing cones (16) from each side of the differential.17. Remove bolts (17) and the washers. Put an alignment mark across housing (18) and the differential case assembly for assembly purposes. Remove housing (18).18. Remove the thrust washer, gear thrust washer and differential bevel gear from under housing (18).19. Remove the spider and differential bevel gears from the case assembly. 20. Remove differential bevel gear (19), the gear thrust washer and the thrust washer from the case assembly 21. Remove washers (23), differential bevel gears (22) and sleeve bearings (21) from spider (20). 22. Remove bolts (24) and the washers that hold the differential case assembly to the bevel gear. It may be necessary to use a pry bar to separate the differential case assembly from the bevel gear.23. Install two 3/4 - 10 NC forged eyebolts and nuts in differential case assembly (25) as shown. Fasten a hoist to the forged eyebolts. Remove the differential case assembly from bevel gear (26). The weight of the differential case assembly is 59 kg (130 lb). The weight of the bevel gear is 42 kg (93 lb).Assemble Differential & Bevel Gear (3RL1-Up & 92Z559-Up)
The procedure which follows can be used for the front or rear differential and bevel gear. 1. Install two bearing cups (3) in pinion housing (4).2. Heat the inner bearing cone to a maximum temperature of 135°C (275°F). Install the inner bearing cone on pinion shaft (2). Be sure the bearing cone is seated against the shoulder on the pinion shaft.3. Fasten a hoist to pinion housing (4), and put it in position over the pinion shaft as shown.4. Heat outer bearing cone (1) to a maximum temperature of 135°C (275°F). Install the outer bearing cone on the pinion shaft.
Nut (5) may be reused if the collar of the nut was not cracked during removal or during restaking.
5. Install washer (7) and nut (5) on pinion shaft (6).6. While slowly turning pinion shaft (6), tighten nut (5) to obtain a rolling torque of 1.2 to 3.4 N m (11 to 30 lb in). If the torque value exceeds the specification, back off the nut 1/8 of a turn. Retorque the nut. Check the assembly for zero endplay. Reduce preload torque 0.6 N m (5.31 lb in) for machines with over 100 hours of operation. 7. Restake nut (5) as shown in Illustration B70513P1. 8. Install the lip-type seal in retainer (11) with tool (B). Install the seal until it makes contact with the counterbore in the retainer and with the sealing lip facing toward the inside of the retainer as shown. 9. Check the condition of the O-ring seal used in retainer (11). If the seal is worn or damaged, use a new part for replacement. Install the O-ring
