Connections of the Transmission Hydrostatic Oil Outlet Temperature SensorThis diagnostic code is associated with the transmission hydrostatic oil outlet temperature sensor. The FMI 04 means that the ECM has determined that the voltage of the circuit for the sensor is below normal.

Bulkhead Connectors (1) Loop B Sensor (2) Flushing Oil Temp Sensor (3 ) Loop A SensorThe flushing oil temp sensor is internal to the transmission and has a removable pigtail. There are external bulkhead connectors at the transmission case as shown in Illustration 2.This troubleshooting procedure is initially conducted at the external bulkhead connector on the transmission.
Table 1
SENSOR TEMERATURE RANGE     TEMP     OHMS
HIGH
150° C (302° F)     18
MID POINT
95° C (203° F)     80
LOW
−40° C (−40° F)     34000    Note: Results will vary due to sensor temperature. This diagnostic code is recorded when the ECM reads the signal voltage of the transmission oil temperature sensor and the voltage is too high. The operating range for the output voltage of the sensor is approximately 0.5 VDC to 5 VDC.The possible causes of this diagnostic code are listed here:
The sensor has failed.
The return circuit of the sensor is open in the machine harness.
The signal circuit in the machine harness is shorted to a source of positive voltage.
The signal circuit in the machine harness is open or the sensor is disconnected.
The ECM has failed. This condition is unlikely. Note: The following test procedure may create other diagnostic codes. Ignore these created diagnostic codes and clear the diagnostic codes when the original diagnostic code has been corrected. Ensure that the CID 1742 - FMI 04 diagnostic code is active before performing this procedure.Note: Use a digital multimeter for the measurements in this procedure.Test Step 1. CHECK THE SENSOR VIA EXTERNAL BULKHEAD CONNECTOR
Turn the disconnect switch and the key start switch to the ON position.
Ensure that the diagnostic code is active.
At the bulkhead connector, disconnect the sensor connector (2). Observe the status of the diagnostic code.Expected Result:The FMI 04 diagnostic code remains active. Results:
OK - The FMI 04 diagnostic code remains active. The sensor is correct. Proceed to Test Step 3.
NOT OK - The FMI 04 diagnostic code is no longer active. The sensor has failed.Repair: Replace the sensor.STOPTest Step 2. CHECK THE SENSOR VIA THE INTERNAL CONNECTOR
Turn the disconnect switch and the key start switch to the ON position.
Ensure that the diagnostic code is active.
Disconnect the internal connector from the sensor (2).
The sensor has failed.Repair: Replace the sensor.STOPTest Step 3. Check The Wiring Harness Of The Sensor For A Short To Ground
Turn the key start switch and the disconnect switch to the OFF position.
At the bulkhead connector, disconnect the sensor connector (2) .
Disconnect the machine
