Schematic of the "Power Shift " SolenoidThis diagnostic code is associated with the "Power Shift " solenoid. This diagnostic code is recorded when the ECM reads the current of the solenoid as being above normal. The possible causes are listed below:
A wire is shorted to ground.
The solenoid has failed.
The ECM has failed. A failure of the ECM is unlikely.Note: The Machine ECM is equipped with LED indicators that serve as a self-diagnostic check. With the key start switch ON, the following can be determined by the ECM indicator lights:
If all of the LED lights are Off, voltage is not being supplied to the Machine ECM. Check for power to the ECM.
If the yellow LED is Flashing, a communication error exists on the "CAN" data-link circuit.
If the yellow LED is constantly On, the Machine ECM software may be missing / not loaded.
If the red LED is Flashing, the Machine ECM has failed and may need replacement. Note: The following procedure can create numerous related diagnostic codes. When all harnesses are reconnected, the related diagnostic codes will be shown as being not active. Clear all related diagnostic codes after this procedure is completed.Test Step 1. CHECK THE SWITCH.
Table 1
Status of Switch Circuit
CID and Switch State of Switch Switch Contacts    Status
CID 0581
Backup Switch     Activated     Contacts 5 and 6     Continuity
Not Activated Contacts 4 and 5     Open
Turn the key start switch and the disconnect switch to the OFF position.
Disconnect the backup switch from the panel.
Check the continuity of the switch from contact 5 to contact 6.
Toggle the switch and recheck the continuity of the switch from contact 5 to contact 4.Expected Result:The continuity agrees with Table 1.Results:
OK - The continuity of the switch is correct. Proceed to Test Step 2.
NOT OK - The continuity of the switch is NOT correct.Repair: Replace the switch. Proceed to Test Step 4.Test Step 2. CHECK THE SOLENOID.
Reconnect the backup switch.
Turn the disconnect switch and the key start switch to the ON position. Do not start the engine.
Disconnect the machine harness from the solenoid.
Observe the status of the diagnostic code.
Install a jumper wire between contacts 1 and 2 of the machine harness connector.
Observe the diagnostic code.Expected Result:The diagnostic code is active. Then, the diagnostic code changes to FMI 05 as the jumper wire is installed. Results:
NO - The circuits are correct. The solenoid has failed.Repair: Repeat this test "CHECK THE SOLENOID" in order to verify that the solenoid has failed. Replace the solenoid.STOP
YES - The diagnostic code remains active. Proceed to Test Step 3.Test Step 3. CHECK THE SOLENOID CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND.
