D349, D353, D379, D398 and D399 Generator Set Engines Equipped With SRCR GeneratorsThe service life of the slip rings used in SRCR generators on the above engines can be increased by a change in the polarity of these slip rings. This change in the polarity will make the rings wear more evenly. The polarity can be changed after approximately 2000 hours. To make this change use the procedure that follows:
1. Disconnect wires C1 and C2 at the brush holders.2. Connect wire C1 to the brush holder that C2 was originally connected to. Connect wire C2 to the brush holder that C1 originally was connected to. It will be to your advantage to make a note of this change in position of wires C1 and C2 on the generator. This will make it easier to remember that the wires have been changed.3. The residual magnetism of the field poles can now be restored by "flashing" the field. Use the procedure in Service Manual.
