Removal Procedure
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before the disassembly procedure, the exterior of the component should be thoroughly cleaned. This will help to prevent dirt from entering the internal mechanism.Note: Put identification marks on all hoses, on all hose assemblies, on all wires, and on all tube assemblies for installation purposes. Plug all hose assemblies and all tube assemblies. This helps to prevent fluid loss, and this helps to keep contaminants from entering the system.
Drain the coolant from the cooling system into a suitable container for storage or disposal. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System Coolant (ELC) - Change".

Disconnect hose (1) from water temperature regulator housing (3) .
Remove bolts (2) .
Remove water temperature regulator housing (3) .Note: Note the orientation of water temperature regulator housing (3) for installation purposes.

Remove O-ring seal (4) from water temperature regulator housing (3) .
Remove water temperature regulator (5) .Installation Procedure

Check the water temperature regulator for correct operation. Refer to Testing and Adjusting Manual, "Water Temperature Regulator - Test" for the procedure to test the water temperature regulator.

Position a new O-ring seal (4) into the groove in water temperature regulator housing (3) .
Install water temperature regulator (5) .

Position water temperature regulator housing (3) and install bolts (2). Tighten bolts (2) to a torque of 44 N m (33 lb ft).
Connect hose (1) .
Fill the cooling system. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System Coolant (ELC) - Check".
